A little hydration advice learned in the desert: average your water intake to roughly a gallon or two a day until the week prior to the event; that week drop your water intake by roughly a third and increase your natural juice intake to roughly three 8 ounce glasses a day. Pack sugar free electrolyte packets to add to your water in the field, it will improve the taste and help you maintain a constant flow of fluids even as your water warms up throughout the day. It will also give you the electrolytes you will need while you are out there while not being full of sugars, which actually dehydrate you and ferment in the heat... on that note, stay away from Gatorade, it is packed full of sugars and can actually do more damage than good in the heat. I personally prefer Propel packets, I have used them for years and they work great, but find what you like best and go with that. Questions, comments, or concerns?

Hydration is an extremely important and often forgotten about aspect of hobby sports.
Interesting Tidbit #1: The vast majority of headaches are actually caused by dehydration. Tidbit #2: Propel is product of Gatorade.
Personally, I cannot stand the Splenda in Propel and the other artificial sweeteners in other no sugar additives. I add some lemon juice to my water. This actually adds more minerals and nutrients and takes the edge off of the flavor/lack of flavor plain water. Although, it can indeed ferment if left in a canteen for a couple of days. Though for the purposes of most events that would never be an actual issue that needs to be worried about.
